The Routes of the Empire

“The Routes of the Empire” project aims at discovering the routes that the Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire walked through to reach Italy from southern Germany and Austria to be crowned by the Pope, or to achieve the plain of Po in order to consolidate the imperial power over the emerging new northern Italian municipalities.

The routes used by these armies, highly strategic communication paths, still retain the many fortified structures built to control the territory.

“The Routes of the Empire” Cultural Itinerary aims to reconstruct the Emperors’ journeys from Lower Germany to the Po Valley through Tyrol: a project that will lead to the rediscovery of the traces of a fascinating past by reliving stories and places still capable to generate great emotions.

A journey to rediscover those historical and cultural ties that are the essence of the common roots of the States of Europe.
